File encryption

Nowadays, data protection is becoming increasingly important, particularly when it comes to storing and transmitting data over the internet. One simple yet effective way of securing files is to encrypt them. Encryption involves transforming data in such a way that it is unreadable to unauthorised persons.

File protection methods

There are many ways to secure our information. Among other things, we can use advanced encryption of entire drives and storage media (e.g. using tools such as BitLocker or VeraCrypt), utilise encrypted cloud storage, and use dedicated applications that create virtual, secure vaults for our files.

In everyday use – particularly when quickly sending documents by email or sharing them with colleagues – however, a versatile, fast and widely available solution usually works best.

One of the most commonly used methods of securing files is the use of password-protected ZIP archives. These not only allow data to be compressed, but also protect it from unauthorised access. This means that even if a file falls into the wrong hands, its contents will remain secure.

Safety and convenience in one

Modern archive management programmes (such as 7-Zip or WinRAR) use strong cryptographic standards, such as the AES algorithm. This means that once a sufficiently strong password has been set, it is practically impossible to crack such security using brute-force methods. Most importantly, from the user’s perspective, this entire complex mathematical process boils down to just a few clicks.
